The OSU Monthly Campaign Update tracks progress toward our $625 million campaign goal, celebrates successes along the way, and, above all, showcases the impact philanthropy makes on OSU students, the state of Oregon, and our world.
Generous alumni and friends made May a big month for The Campaign for OSU. They committed $10.4 million to OSU, bringing the campaign total to $585.3 million with one month remaining in its sixth fiscal year. Learn more about campaign progress.
A highlight of the month was the launch of the Provost's Faculty Match Program. Funded by the Provost's Office, the program provides an extra incentive for donors to endow faculty positions that support the priorities identified in the university's strategic plan. Visit the OSU Foundation website or contact Todd Bastian for more information about how the match works.
We also achieved an important milestone this month: we secured our 100th commitment of $1 million or more to the campaign; learn more about this landmark gift.
To see the significance of 100 million-dollar gifts, consider that before The Campaign for OSU, the university had received a total of 54 gifts of this size in its entire history. The campaign has added another 100. This means that 65 percent of all $1M+ gifts in the history of the university have been secured during the campaign. While every gift to OSU is important, whether for scholarships, faculty support, or facility projects, leadership gifts allow us to more quickly meet our goals and are especially critical to our efforts to become one of the nation's premier land grant institutions.
This month's update features three areas in which gifts of $1 million or more are making an amazing impact on students, Oregon, and our world.
FOR OREGON: A new College of Business building
The month began with an exciting announcement: lead gifts from two prominent Oregon business families are launching a drive to construct a new $50 million home for the College of Business.
In recognition of Ken '54 and Joan Austin's $10 million commitment, the building will be named in their honor. The late Al Reser '60, his wife Pat Reser '60, and their family also made a $6 million commitment to the project, part of which is a challenge to encourage other donors to support it also.
Already, two additional families have announced $1 million commitments to the project: Marian and Steve Bailey '70 and Kate '83 and John Stirek '82.
The new facility will allow the college to build on its legacy as one the nation's first 12 schools of commerce, which now offers more bachelor degrees in business than any other business college in the Oregon University System.
"I am delighted that the Stireks and the Baileys have stepped forward to join the Austins and Resers in supporting the new facility for the College of Business," said Ilene Kleinsorge, the Sara Hart Kimball Dean. "I am overwhelmed by the show of support from these four families. Expect to hear about many more gifts in the coming months as we strive to meet the Reser family's challenge."
Learn about two other recent $1 million commitments that will have a great impact:
For STUDENTS: the 100th $1 million gift of the campaign, supporting OSU Athletics
For THE WORLD: a $1 million estate gift establishing the Comparative Health Research and Education Fund in the College of Veterinary Medicine
