Portland President’s Circle Reception

On April 2, members of the President’s Circle and 1868 Society gathered at the Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland for the 2011 OSU President’s Circle reception. The “Classical Mystery Tour” pops concert, which featured music by the Beatles, was sponsored by the OSU Foundation to help build an increased OSU presence in Portland as well as highlight OSU’s strengths in the arts.

OSU benefits Portland and all of Oregon through music education. Our university music performance programs have been increasing in size and vibrancy. OSU has 600 students in the combined band programs, 300 students in the choral programs, and now boasts the second largest marching band in the Pac-10.

Not only are OSU music programs making an impact in Oregon, many students have had the opportunity to travel the world to share their music through ongoing exchange programs in Japan, China and Germany. The OSU Chamber Choir just returned from a tour in China and other privately-funded tours are being planned.

It is because of the generous people involved with the OSU community that our music program and students are able to have such an impact. They’re sharing their passion for music and helping to shape the next generation of music lovers.
