Real Property

Donating a home, farm, or forested property can provide you with many financial benefits while supporting OSU’s teaching, research, and outreach. Benefits can include:

income tax deduction based on today’s fair market value of the property
avoidance of capital gains tax on the appreciated value
relief from maintenance and other ownership responsibilities
assistance with property sale
immediate or future support for OSU

Gifts-in-Kind

Contributions of tangible property, gifts-in-kind may include items such as historic papers for the library or specialized equipment for scientific research. The university has a review process for evaluating the suitability of these gifts. If the items meet the needs of an OSU program, donors can realize many rewards including:

tax deduction based on the present-day value of the item
avoidance of capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the item
