Student develops mentoring program for businesses

Some OSU students can't wait until graduation to start making an impact on society.

They get started while they're still enrolled.

For Beaverton senior Neha George, a summer internship at Fred Meyer was more than a great way to gain experience in the business world. Her project explored how mentoring within the company can help retain staff, especially those from the Millennial generation. Even before Neha finished evaluating this innovative program in her University Honors College thesis, some of her findings already were being implemented at the corporate level.

"I presented my proposal to the company's executive leadership and got a very positive response. To be able to do something like that and have it be recognized and utilized was a thrill," she said. "So much of my ability to perform has to be credited to OSU."

A Diversity Achievement Scholarship recipient, Neha credits scholarship support for enabling her to get the most out of her education.

"I would like to personally thank those of you who have contributed to OSU and have made it possible for students like me to attend. To say that I am grateful would be an understatement," she said at a recent President's Circle reception in Portland. President's Circle members, representing OSU's inner circle of donors, make generous annual gifts of $1,000 or more.

"I never imagined that an education would encompass so much, and it is my hope that future Beavers continue to be given the opportunity to have such experiences."

You can make a difference for students like Neha by contributing to the OSU Fund. Whether you designate your gift for Diversity Achievement Awards, the Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, or another area, your gift matters. Make your gift today!
