A $12 million grand opening for Veterinary Medicine

On May 3, OSU's College of Veterinary Medicine cut the ribbon on $12 million in new large animal and diagnostic imaging facilities.

The celebration kicked off the activites of the college's popular annual Pet Day event, and marked a major milestone in the ongoing transformation of the college.

"To everyone who supported this project, I want you to know that you have made a tremendous difference, not just for me, and my classmates—but for the hundreds of future students that will learn here at OSU," said Megan Christie, a third year veterinary student.

The improvements were launched through a $5 million grant from the Valley Foundation, and supported by many contributions. They include:

  • a new arena, diagnostic wing, advanced CT unit, and equine treadmill that will help veterinarians diagnose disease in large animals;
  • new laboratories and offices which will accommodate the college's growing faculty and advance clinical research; and
  • remodeled receiving facilities and intensive care unit that will improve the care of large animals in the Lois Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

In recent years, the college has also opened a new small animal clinic, added more than 20 faculty, expanded its educational program so that students now complete all four years on campus, and launched a groundbreaking partnership with the Oregon Humane Society in Portland.

"The college is in the midst of an amazing transformation," said Dean Cyril Clarke.
